Academic Morning Tea

QUT Golden Key’s first Academic event for 2013 was held on Monday, April 8 in the OJW room at Gardens Point. This was an amazing event. Those lucky enough to attend were graced with the presence of several heads of schools. A brief shower did not dampen spirits for staff and students who had a chance to network and talk about the year ahead.

Freshly brewed tea and coffee was served with jam & cream scones, and fresh fruit (which didn’t last long!). Thank you for all the hard work that went into the event and to everyone that came along – there are definitely some positive results coming out of this event, a surprise for later on this year!

Corporate Wine and Cheese Appreciation Night

QUT Golden Key’s first corporate event for the year, the Corporate Wine and Cheese Appreciation Night, was a great success! Students and corporate representatives were chatting together with ease, discussing study and the workplace with enthusiasm. After talking to a varied range of students, from science to creative industries, I had a lengthy discussion with a few law and business corporate representatives. It was fascinating to hear about the ‘real world’ and to meet kind and encouraging mentors.

After delicious nibbles and a well-appreciated bar tab, it was time for our esteemed guest, the Honourable Justice Ian Callinan AC (former Justice of the High Court of Australia), to speak. It was refreshing to hear him strongly advocate immersing yourself in literature, particularly as a law student. He mentioned that his interest in the creative field, as a writer, had an interesting and beneficial influence on his career. It inspired me to go home and pick up a book!

Overall, the event was stimulating and educational. Meeting corporate representatives and students from a diverse range of faculties was a welcome and enjoyable eye-opener to the professional world.

President's Address 2013

Welcome to QUT Golden Key for 2013!

My name is Rosie Attwell and I am this year's President for the QUT Chapter. I joined Golden Key in 2010 and initially used it as an advertisement on my resume. After researching it online, I discovered that our Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce and Olympic Gold Medallist Ian Thorpe are honorary members. After that, I decided to become more involved!

Rosie Attwell

Over the last three years, I have had amazing and varied opportunities, including:
  • Meeting Tony Jones from Q&A on ABC
  • Receiving a scholarship to travel to the USA and attend the 2012 International Golden Key Conference
  • Volunteering and raising money for charity organisations (such as the Umoja Orphanage)
  • Attending career development workshops lead by industry professionals (like the renowned search consultant Curtis Walter)
  • Meeting other well-rounded, like-minded and pro-active students at QUT

I hope that all of our current members take advantage of what the Golden Key offers. This year we have many social, professional development and community service events planned to ensure you get the most out of your Golden Key membership.

I look forward to meeting you all at some of our events throughout the year!
